Salon Owner

Brent Bain

Alberta, Canada

“You offer some great tips on the course. I found it very valuable and even the little things have added some value to my services already. You repeat the important information and really demonstrate a top notch approach. Thanks for a great program! Regarding skin systems and the general procedure, this class is top shelf. The blending module is the key to delivering that HRC quality finish. Best professional move I ever made.”

Background: 6 years in hair replacement. Runs successful salons in Edmonton and Calgary with 4 full-time staff providing hair replacement services. Former Hairskeen Canadian (English language) Educator. Currently expanding the Calgary shop to double the floor space with private rooms.

“I’m a full-time mum and I’ve had a big gap from not cutting hair so my confidence had totally gone. I’m looking forward to getting back on track and learning the hair replacement side of things. I’ve watched Tom on Instagram over the years and thought I’d love to get into this. So I made the leap and here I am.”

Background: Trained as a barber in 2021. Took a four-year gap from the chair while raising her family. Three children, youngest with complex needs. Came back to the trade through HRC after years of following Tom on Instagram.

Barber Pivot

Jake Ranger

Exeter, UK

“I’ve been barbering for about 7 years. I’ve wanted to get into this for years and I genuinely think it’s a life-changing feeling. The fact that we can give someone the confidence to feel great again is another string to add to my bow — and on a personal level, the fact you can make good money from it could take some pressure off long hours in the barbershop. I want to start a family and feel this is an opportunity to give me a good work-life balance.”

Background: 7 years barbering. Manages a barbershop in Exeter, teaches Level 2/3 barbering at Exeter College, opening a home studio alongside the shop. Inspired to enter the trade after travelling the US.

Veteran Barber

“I’ve been barbering for about 35 years now and I’ve owned my shop for the last 25. I’ve seen a lot change in the industry, and honestly, it’s pushed me to switch things up. I’m looking to take my business in a new direction — something that makes us stand out and actually helps people feel better about themselves. Buzzing to learn more on this course and level things up.”

Background: 35 years barbering, 25 years owning his own shop. Adding hair repair as a stand-out specialism to differentiate the business.

Shop Owner

Benjamin Medina

Macon, Georgia, USA

“Cutting the base with the scissors has been a complete game changer for me. I used to use a razor and would leave a bunch of little corners — now it’s uniform and a single cut line with no corners. I truly enjoy seeing how my clients look and feel about themselves once they see the results.”

Background: Barber for 9 years. Owns his own barbershop in Macon, Georgia for almost 5 years. Got into hair systems in 2024. Already running fits when he joined HRC to refine his technique to the HRC standard.

Tom on what’s possible · 2 min

The student who’d never picked up scissors.

One of Tom’s past students had never held a pair of scissors before training. He took a basic barbering course, then HRC. Three months later he was running what Tom calls “probably the busiest hair repair business in Northern Ireland.”

It’s why the demographic on this page is so wide — from 35-year salon owners to total career changers. What matters more than experience is following the method properly.

“Hard work can beat talent when talent doesn’t work hard.”
